Mardi Gras Princess!!

Phoebe enjoyed her first Mardi Gras party! Cousin Santana (from Louisiana) sent us a King Cake this year. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a traditional Mardi Gras celebration cake- it's actually like a big, braided, glazed donut with icing and sprinkles- and there's a plastic baby baked inside! Whoever gets the baby in their piece of cake (and doesn't choke on it!) is supposed to have good luck for the whole year! She also sent Phoebe this special "Mardi Gras Princess" shirt, beads, and a play gold coin...which Phoebe tried to eat! She had lots of fun playing with the beads, swinging them around, and chewing on them. The cake was a trip too- I shared it with pretty much everyone we know, as there was a ton of it! Phoebe had a piece of the cake for dessert on Mardi Gras day, and it was hilarious! The first bit she broke off to eat was the ENTIRE layer of icing, which she gulped down all at once. (This was the point where I knew I was in trouble.) Then she picked up the cake and munched through it like a taco...and proceeded to go INSANE for about half an hour- she was running around like E.T., waving her arms, yelling, laughing- she was CRAZY! Uncle Nick and Aunt Am were over, and Phoebe gave Uncle Nick quite the work out as he chased around after her! Thanks, Santana, for making this year's Mardi Gras awesome!!

Chef-in-Training

So Phoebe wants to be a chef...must take after her Daddy...Phoebe has been all into the cabinets lately, but this is the first time that she's pulled out the pots and pans and played with them for more than 30 seconds. She was having a good time throwing the pots around until I gave her a spoon, and then she really went to town! She kept hitting them and acting like she was stirring soup- and then she would even pull the spoon out and lick it, like she was taste-testing her little creation! This went on for a good 10 minutes, during which time she crawled over onto my lap several times to put the spoon up to my mouth- I was her taste-tester! Aww! Now, if she could just whip up some fettucine alfredo, we'd be in business!

Phoebe Walks After All!

Well, it's official: Phoebe is walking!! Yay! (And this time we didn't have to bribe her with weird items!) I was picking up around the house tonight, and caught her taking off walking from the big black shelf in the entry to the pantry, like it was no big deal. Then she headed from the couch to Matt's game chair, like she'd been walking all day! I grabbed the camera in time to get this video of her headed for the toy area- no more lazy baby here- she's off!

Valentine's Day

Here's Phoebe celebrating Valentine's Day! Below, she's dressed in her Valentine's finest on Friday the 13th at her little school party (which was really just a special snack). I went in to take pictures, and didn't think twice when I saw her eating bananas...till she threw up all over her poretty dress, which is when I remembered that bananas make her throw up...duh! While I was peeling the dress off, she had a similar experience in her diaper, which went all over her tights...it took the teacher and myself to de-funk her, and after all that, we decided we'd had enough of the party and it was time to go home! On Valentine's Day itself, Grandpa and Grandma Derringer came down to baby sit so Matt and I could go see a romantic movie- Friday the 13th- and then we all went out to dinner. Happy Valentine's Day!

Silly Cheerio Kid

Here are some pictures of Phoebe enjoying a nutritious dinner of, that's right- Cheerios! She's been going in streaks of eating anything you put in front of her to being pretty picky. The guaranteed-to-be-wolfed-down-every-time food is Cheerios, so that's what we usually fall back on if it seems like she won't eat ANYTHING else. She is over the oatmeal, and won't eat any of that squishy baby food any more- so it's Cheerios and fruit for breakfast now too! And...her favorite snack is of course Cheerios, but Goldfish crackers are coming in at a close second now. Good thing Cheerios are healthy, huh? Just can't have too many in one day, otherwise it's prune time...but only if Daddy's staying with her the next day...oh Daddy, where are you?? :)

Bath Time!!

Bath time has changed as of late- for a while, Phoebe was big enough to get baths in the tub. But then Mommy's belly got too big to allow her to bend over and support her in the tub, so we moved bath time back to the kitchen sink. Then Mommy's pregnant belly got even BIGGER, and it became difficult to get Phoebe up into the sink properly. So bath time had to move back to the tub- and conveniently, Phoebe is now big enough to support herself and not slide all over the place in the tub, so if Mommy can get the hair washing and scrubbing done without hyperventilating, then the rest of the bath time is for Phoebe to play. (Mommy sits on the toliet seat and watches as she catches her breath- once that's back in order, bath time can end any time.) Phoebe is just LOVING this new bath routine! She always holds one squirty toy in her right hand, and splashes with her left hand. She never wants to get out, either- she would stay in the bath all day if she could!

January Photos

Hello again, everyone! It has been a while since I've updated the blog, I know- how could I forget with all the grandparents complaining about Phoebe withdrawl? :) Well here's the deal- for the longest tme, I was waiting for something to take a picture of...but since Christmas break, Phoebe has had a cold, pink eye, the flu, (actually, we ALL had the flu), teething, and has been adjusting to the new schedule at the Primrose school, and to tell you the truth, none of that has been very pretty! Between snot and eye crusties and crying and falling asleep at 5:00, it's been hard to get a picture of her looking healthy and lucid at the same time, let alone doing anything cute!! Now things are getting back on track again, though, (knock on wood!) so here's the update: besides being sickly and cranky, not much is new. Phoebe is still not walking OR talking- what a big BABY, huh? Now, in her defense, she has started walking on her knees like E.T., which you would think would be much harder than actually walking upright, but hey- whatever. She also will point to "Momma" and "Dada" and "milk" and "dogs" when we say those things to her- repeatedly and in her face in an instructional type manner, but she has not said the words herself. Just lots of "mamamamamamama", "dadadadadada", "numnumnumnum" for food, "da" for dog, and straight yelling and pointing for anyhting else she wants. The only thing she has really been repeating is "uh-oh," and that would usually be when she kicks her shoe off in the grocery store for the hundredth time in ten minutes, and after looking you dead in the eye, hearing, "Don't you kick that shoe off again!" and then deliberately kicking the shoe off anyways. She's quite the little stinker! So anyways, these pictures, from bottom to top: during the pink eye week, Phoebe passed out face-down in her play pen, covering her eyes. (So you can see what I mean- that was the BEST picture I had from all the illnesses.) Then we have her in the tub- the new coolest place to be. Next is her wrinkly toes from being in the tub too long- which is never long enough, of course. Then we have her spending the day in her jammies on our snow day- when we got a good 12 inches of snow dumped on us. We had a great day at home together, rearranging her room, working on Baby Boy's room, playing, reading books, trying to learn to walk and talk, and taking naps. Last is a shot of how she spent the last part of cousin Mindy's baby shower in Michigan on Saturday- passed out. Hopefully February will be more exciting, more healthy, and more fun!
